After relying on memory of this event for 35 years, Paul Boots' digital conversion of the 8 mm film footage is now available for sharing.

The players:

1st leg: Brian Latouf: Brian takes provides a slight lead at the 400 metre mark, but remember, we had a 'three turn stagger' from lane 5.

2nd leg: Todd Lucier: Todd blazed through the first 100 m allowing him to cut unhindered to lane one. He battled to hold off 2 athletes who would pass, even though they would be forced to do so on the curve.

3rd leg: Rodd Lucier:I had the chance to take the baton and though I followed was just excited to be in the top

4th leg: Paul Boots: The key move took place on the final curve. With Laurier running away, the 2nd and 3rd place teams fought for second. The second place team pushed wide on the curve, to keep the third place team at bay, allowing 'Booter' to nimbly pass both of them 'on the inside' with under 100m to go. With 25 metres to go, we were almost 10 metres behind! With the Laurier anchor runner unable to see or hear anyone approaching, Paul's amazing lean took the team to the regional championship only centimetres from the finish line.

At lunchtime yesterday, I had the opportunity to meet with Peter Purgathofer from the Informatics Faculty at the Institute of Design and Assessment of Technology in Vienna Austria. After some evening editing, I pared our conversation down to this 22 minute 'lesson' on Slidecasting 2.0, an interactive technology in its infancy, that encourages lecture audiences to be active learners, by engaging attaching comments, links, references, and questions to the presenter's slides.

The resulting 'rich notes' are then available online for further editing and sharing. If this open source project goes global, PowerPoint lectures may soon be recognized as interactive events!
